How time flies! 27 days without Facebook and counting. Almost a month since I’ve been on Facebook or another social media site. I note this doesn’t include Youtube – this seems to be part social media and part author platform. Given I treat it as author platform, I’m still producing content for it.
Off to my daughter’s wedding this coming weekend and I’m looking forward to seeing family and friends gathered together to celebrate and enjoy life together. Don’t need social media for that although I’m sure a few pics will be shared by family and friends on their own timelines. Good for them.
No idea what or whom is being shared or discussed. I’m not sure how I’ll explain my absence to friends other than the obvious truth. Got tired of it all. Maybe see you in another few months. Send me the pics via email or a dropbox link. Or, equally likely, I simply wasn’t missed. 🙂 Family and friends drop out of your timeline all the time and you have to think about them to suddenly realize you’re not seeing them anymore.
Taking the time to do some biz planning and personal development. Looking seriously at my own personal goals in life and what I really hope to accomplish in the next few years.
Nowhere in my goals or development does it call for having a higher social media presence or spending more time online.
Mayo convinced me to have a local guy take care of the lawn mowing to allow me some time to work on other more pressing projects. Takes him a half hour where it used to take me several hours. That’s the difference between using two big low-radius machines versus one large tractor. Their low speed is higher than my highest speed and man, do they motor along.
I’ve built some gardens, cleaned up a ton of stuff from around here, raised the soil level of the backyard to improve the drainage flow and a few other chores.
Between no social media and no lawn mowing, I’m a regular dynamo of productivity. 🙂
I’m cutting back the amount of time devoted to garden writing. Seriously cutting it back. My life goals don’t include writing yet-another article on how to grow tomatoes (for what would likely be the sixth time).
I have a list of other creative projects as long as my arm I want to tackle so traditional garden writing is going to have to be reduced.
More on that later.
Thursday – Facebook started sending me even more pictures of people “I might know”. Some had absolutely no connection to anything I could identify as related to me. Who knows what lurks in the mind of that algorithm?
Off to wedding tomorrow am so posting this ahead of time.
Bottom Line So Far
I don’t miss social media. My ebook sales haven’t dropped. My website traffic hasn’t dropped out of seasonal norms.
Tell me again why I’m taking creative energy and applying it to somebody else’s website.
