Part of the adventure of living a creative life is how you can’t stand still. It’s either move or die a thousand deaths doing the same thing over and over. I’ve been thinking about this blog and what I wanted to write in the near future for some time. And it’s time – after all, if not now, when?
My 2017 Writing Map
This is my current research and writing map. I have a stack of books on my desk to be read and many more on the to-read list. I’ve started a record of those books here.
Note this is also my 2017 writing map and it’s subject to change at any time if I find something bright and shiny to read about and study. My curiosity knows few bounds.
A Quick Explanation
The outer ring (Alzheimer’s, Lifestyle Choices etc) are things I’m concerned with as a senior and the inner square is what I’m both reading, experimenting with and practicing. For example, here’s my first attempt at (fitness) weight training, How To Be Stronger In 12 Weeks is here. I’m currently starting on another system (hopefully more sustainable) and I’ll have a report back on that in another month or so.
My first diet experiment is underway and in the last week, I’ve dropped 5 pounds. The next objective is to make this sustainable. I’ll have a report on that for you as well in another few weeks.
Why Those Topics
I’ve chosen the topics because they’re of direct interest to me. And that interest springs from my direct family history and, as you might expect, a desire to age gracefully and delay any and all problems as long as possible.
Let me be frank. I don’t expect to live forever.
But I do want to live well for as long as I possibly can.
And that’s the point here. If it takes exercise and eating properly to get to my grandkids graduations or weddings, then I’m up for that.
Why Gardening Isn’t There
Gardening isn’t included in this plan as it gets its own specific role in my future. To be frank, I haven’t yet sorted out the shape of my 40-year love affair with the garden.
This Is A Work In Progress
Well, aren’t we all?
I’ll be reporting back on every experiment, I’ll tell you what works and what doesn’t. If you take a quick look back at the graphic, you’ll see there are very few things out of my interest range at the moment. And who knows, even those things may show up sooner or later.
