I got thinking the other day about social media and how I was now aware it’s not “social interaction” or sharing personal information/conversation as much as it is sharing pictures, funky quotes, videos etc. It’s social “media” instead of social discussion. You expect that on your author or business pages but even personal pages are now full of news clips, videos, cute quotes and dog/cat pictures.
I started making notes and brainstorming this coming year’s editorial calendar and a random thought about how I might compare social media to girlfriends came to mind. Rather than explain any further…
We’re just good friends. (Youtube hosts my videos, pays me a pittance in advertising.)
Sorry, I know your face but your name escapes me at the moment. (I have an account but never visit)
Wow, I thought you’d moved to China. Nice to see you. (Really, you’re still alive.)
Hello sweetheart! Where have you been all my life? (Currently more traffic than Google and Facebook)
Nice to hear from you again. It’s been how long? What? Out for a drink? Sure why not. (On again, off again, can’t fall in love but can’t quit because it delivers traffic)
Hey – good to see you again. (My best friend still delivers a ton of traffic and recovering nicely now the sites are stable again.)
Here’s where I put posts related to social media for writers
