If you can’t beat ’em join ’em.
I posted before about Facebook eating my garden writing lunch. So I decided to run an experiment.
One of my gardening sites, SimpleGiftsFarm.com had been hosted on a company called SiteSell since 2005. And while SBI started off as a groundbreaking tech company, it had devolved over the years to what I would consider kludge. So I moved the site to WordPress.
Using Just Two WordPress Facebook Plugins
With two plug-ins, I hooked up and integrated the entire site to my author page at DougGreensGardening. The first plug-in, Jetpack social integration, posts the articles instantly and the second plug-in, Facebook Comments Importer, integrates FB comments and my post comments. This means if a reader on Facebook makes a comment about this post, that comment will also show up on this blog post.
This is all by way of surrendering to the notion that if you cannot beat the big guy, you might as well join it.
I note I have done the same thing with this blog, and my fiction blog. These last two do not get the same amount of traffic or commenting has the more established gardening site does. But in the long run, I think the integration is what has to happen.
I may not like this, but the reality is that sometimes you just can’t beat the big guys.
So I welcome your participation either on this website’s Facebook, page or on this website. You can now get notifications of all new posts via email, RSS feed, or Facebook.
As I said in the title, if you can’t beat ’em…
