I rather like Joe Konrath’s way of writing New Year’s resolutions – a serial and ongoing list from year to year – as it acts as a measuring tape as well as a commitment. In that vein then, let me give you my decisions about the coming year.
Last year, I wrote a series of New Year’s Resolutions and this year I followed the format above and posted the results (a mixed bag of success, almost success and having bitten off more than I could chew.)
And then I thought about this whole “resolution” thing and deleted the entire post. Wiped it right off.
It still exists as a business plan on paper, I’ll still work to it but my decision was based on something else I’m thinking now:
“Don’t tell me what you’re planning to do
Tell me what you’re doing or have done.”
Or Eliza Dolittle’s words, “Don’t talk of love, show me.” in My Fair Lady.
To those few brave souls who read these notes on a regular basis – I’ll show you. Indeed I will. And then I’ll tell you what I was thinking and planning.
Spare me your good intentions; the world doesn’t need any more of those.
Share your work, share your concrete plans, share your results.
